Beach town, beach town, beach town. If you ever wanted a good beach town to go to it would be a visit to Mirissa, Sri Lanka.
It has what you want. It has the chill vibe, the surfing, the bars, the sun, the beautiful blue water, waves, sunsets, and even some beautiful people.
As I was on an adventure to tour the cool mysterious country of Sri Lanka, people had said to stop by Mirrissa. It is a cool beach town ready for some R&R time.
For me, it was a place to stop, chill, relax, and be able to get ready for the second set of the adventure. It was much more than relaxing. There were cool sights and fun trips ahead.
Lodging:
Some places you to help you find accommodation would be the following:
- Hostelworld
- Booking.com
- Agoda
- Airbnb
- Couchsurfing
JJ’s Hostel:
JJ’s Hostel was unlike any hostel I had ever stayed at before. You are talking about a hostel that looks like a cool resort.
It had hammocks, lounge chairs outside, yoga on the roof, and nice bedrooms with good showers.
The service was impeccable. The volunteer staff were the nicest people that I have encountered so far on my journey through Sri Lanka, and that made the whole difference of staying there. They even set up a tour for Whale watching with ,Raja and the Whales for me when I had arrived.
The food was spectacular, and of course JJ was a cool man from Australia. He had envisoned a hostel that was much more than a regular hostel. After spending many years of travel, he came across Mirrissa, and wanted to take the best parts of the hostels he had stayed in, and create something that people would enjoy the most.
I had so much fun, I came back for another night when I was on my way back to Colombo. Life is exciting, sometimes you have to enjoy the finer spots like JJ’s Hostel.

Whale watching with Raja and The Whales:

Things to do:
As I have mentioned before you can go whale watching in Mirrissa. This is one of those fun activities that should be on anybodies to do list. Lets just go over some of the other activities that are available.
- Surfing
Surfing is a thing that is so cheap to do, and so much fun at the same time. There are a couple of spots to do some surfing. Spots for more professional and some for those that are beginners. There are lessons that people can take for really dirt cheap prices, plus it is just beautiful water and a great time.
- Whale watching
There are various different companies you can choose from. There are prices that all differ based upon practices, reviews, and amenities. I suggest Raja and the Whales. That is my opinion, but to each is their own.
- The Beach:
If all else fails, you will have no problem going to the beach. The yellow sand, blue water, great sun, and anything from food to drinks to help with your experience as you spend time relaxing. The beach is something that so many people love. If you are in Mirrissa do not skip out on the beach. It is beautiful and fun. It is a great place to watch the sunset, and someplace to walk hand and hand with a loved one. Nothing better than spending a day admiring the beach in Mirrissa. It is a beach town.
- There are also other activities:
The hostels, hotels, and neighboring businesses offere various other activities such as fishing, jet skiing, sailing, yoga, and anything else you could want. I just named off a few.
Food to Eat:
When in Mirrissa, you have a multitude of options. The beach has several great places to stop and have a bite to eat. Plus there are places spread out around town just a walking distance away to eat some Koutou or to have some Roti. My favourite place was Dewmini Roti Shop. It was amazing.
Overall, the experience was Great!!
I have to admit that this was one of my most favorite places to go in Sri Lanka. It was relaxing, chill, great environment, and it felt like a vacation or a holiday.
If you are ever in Sri Lanka, make sure to visit Mirissa. It is a great place to visit and have fun.
